Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh Technology Academy (ULGPTA), sponsored by Google and Comcast, provides a pathway for economic self-sufficiency via coursework in the technology arena. The courses are 16 weeks of hybrid (virtual and in-person) evening classes to provide many segments of prospective students with an opportunity for economic advancement.
Build the foundational technology skills needed for a career in IT support. This course covers computer hardware and software, networking, operating systems, troubleshooting, security, mobile devices, virtualization, cloud computing, and customer support. Participants will gain practical, job-ready knowledge while preparing for the industry-recognized CompTIA A+ certification.
Build foundational cybersecurity skills and prepare for a career in IT security. This course covers threats and vulnerabilities, network and application security, secure protocols, authentication and authorization, cloud security, incident response, digital forensics, risk management, privacy, and compliance. Participants will develop practical security knowledge while preparing for the globally recognized CompTIA Security+ certification.
Develop advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint through hands-on exercises, in-depth instruction, and guided practice. Participants will strengthen their proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite while preparing for Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Build a strong foundation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, and AWS cloud technologies. This course explores practical AI applications, foundation models, prompt engineering, Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Q, responsible AI, security, governance, and more. Participants will develop a working understanding of today’s AI tools and concepts while preparing for the AWS Certified AI Practitioner certification.
Build a strong foundation in networking and prepare for a career in IT infrastructure and network support. This course covers TCP/IP, Ethernet, LANs and WANs, routing and switching, IPv4 and IPv6, wireless networking, network security, cloud architecture, automation, and Cisco technologies. Participants will develop practical networking knowledge while preparing for the Cisco CCNA certification.
This course introduces participants to the essential principles of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) development, implementation, and oversight. Participants will explore AI governance frameworks, ethical considerations, data privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance. Through real-world examples and practical discussions, learners will gain an understanding of how organizations can identify and mitigate AI-related risks, establish responsible AI policies, and ensure that AI technologies are used ethically, safely, and in accordance with emerging laws and industry standards.

This course covers business planning, market research, funding, sales and marketing strategy, branding, operations, financial statements, leadership, and organizational structure.
