The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh’s technology and STEM programs are creating life-changing pathways to education, certification, and economic self-reliance for middle school students, high school students, and adults.
Led by Dr. Winford Craig, Director of STEM Programs and IT, these initiatives provide access to career-focused training in Cisco, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Office Specialist, CompTIA A+, cybersecurity, and emerging AI certifications. Dr. Craig’s work helps participants from disadvantaged and disenfranchised communities gain the skills, confidence, and hope needed to pursue rewarding careers in technology.
Our STEM programs help students discover the value of technology and the opportunities it can create. By building awareness and exposing learners to new possibilities, the Urban League helps young people begin to see a stronger future for themselves through education, postsecondary preparation, and career readiness.
Today, the programs serve more than 400 students annually, growing from 15 students to 150 students per semester — an increase of up to 900% — while maintaining a 75% to 80% retention rate.
