How to be a mentor for the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh
- Submit mentor application
Applications must be completed in full. Links provided at the bottom of this page to the application. - Obtain and submit FBI, Child Abuse, and Criminal Clearance
Mentors must have FBI, Child Abuse, and Criminal Clearances in order to volunteer with our program.
If you already have a copy of clearances, they must be within a year old and they must be submitted to us. It does not matter if your clearances are on file with your job or another entity. We must have a copy. If you do not have clearances, you must obtain them. - FBI Clearance:
The first step to obtain your FBI clearance is to complete and submit FBI form enclosed to this application. Once we receive it, it takes us about 10 days to process it. Once processed, you will receive an email with a unique code that you will need to obtain your finger prints at a finger printing facility. Please note, we also provide you with finger printing locations. Once you get your finger prints, your results will come in mail and you will supply us with an original copy. There is a fee of $22.60 due at the time of fingerprint processing. - Child Abuse Clearance:
You must go online to obtain your child abuse clearance. We cannot do this for you. Go the the following link: https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home Click on “create an individual account” The key stone ID is the account username, that you will need to create for yourself. Note, it will take 1-14 days to complete on line. If you send it in mail it will take 4-6 weeks. Volunteer clearances are FREE. If you have any questions you can call 1-877-343-0494. When your clearance comes in mail you must supply this to us. - Criminal Clearance:
Once you submit your application, we will automatically process your criminal record clearance and keep the record on file. - New Mentor Interview
