Rental Assistance

The Housing Department at the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh is now accepting Rental Assistance Applications.  Programs are offered for both families and individuals who are currently homeless and seeking assistance with a security deposit or are currently unable to afford rent.

Please read the information below to ensure you can obtain all of the necessary documentation so that our housing staff can begin to assist you immediately.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

 Family Housing Stabilization Program (FHSP) – Families with children under 17

  • Maximum grant: $750
  • ( MUST MEET FEDERAL GUIDELINES)
Housing Assistance Program (HAP) – Individuals, no children

  • Maximum Grant: $500
  • ( MUST MEET FEDERAL GUIDELINES)

PROGRAM DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS 

 Security Deposit Assistance

  • Lease or letter of intent to rent from the landlord
  • Referral from a social service or or government agency verifying state of homelessness
  • Current Proof of income for one full month (most recent 30 days)
  • Photo ID (cannot be expired)
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth certificates for all children in the household ages 17 or younger (for FHSP)

 

Delinquent Rent Assistance

  • Magistrate’s notice or notice of eviction from the landlord
  • Proof of previous payments or payment agreement with landlord
  • 2 pieces of mail for address verification
  • Current proof of income for one full month (most recent 30 days)
  • Photo ID (cannot be expired)
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth certificates for all children in the household ages 17 or younger (for FHSP)
