Get a Job
The goal of economic self-reliance is one of the pillars of the Urban League movement. To achieve self-reliance, we must ensure that everyone has equal access to successful employment. The Employment & Training Department at the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh provides that access through a wide range of services designed for a diverse workforce with varying needs. Our department staff helps jobseekers find opportunities for financial self-sufficiency and security.
Gaining successful employment is not an easy task in today’s challenging job market, where there is limited growth and increased competition. Many clients also face additional barriers to employment, including homelessness, criminal records, lack of high school education and limited skill sets.
To overcome these barriers, the Employment & Training Department administers Urban League, county and federal programs designed to aid job seekers in their search. The department also focuses on identifying other needs of job seekers to improve their chances of employment, including:
- GED preparation
- Employment assessment and counseling
- Job readiness training
- Job referral and placement services
- Interview coaching
- Resume development
- Online job searches
- Career workshops
- Onsite employer interviews
- Access to career fairs
- Access to housing
- Access to Hunger Relief
